Overview
We provide ongoing technical WordPress support to the web administrator. In 2020, we worked with the Catholic Diocese of Auckland to redesign their main website to mark the release of their Mata kaupapa Mihana—The Diocesan Mission Map. We focused particularly on improving user experience.
Design and Usability
The Catholic Diocese of Auckland website is a well-organized and resource-rich platform that effectively serves its community:

The main menu is thoughtfully structured, with clearly labelled sections such as "Missionary Discipleship," "Young People," and "Liturgy & Prayer," allowing users to locate the information or resources they need easily. - Visual Design:
The site employs consistent colours and typography, creating a cohesive, calming aesthetic that aligns well with its purpose and audience. - Accessibility:
Accessibility features such as NZSL-interpreted event details are included, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and making resources available to a diverse audience. - Mobile Usability:
The website is responsive, adapting well to smaller screens, ensuring users can access content conveniently on mobile devices. - Content Richness:
The site offers extensive resources, including liturgical prayers, family materials, and information about social services. These features make it a valuable hub for the Catholic community and beyond.
This design emphasizes ease of use, inclusivity, and a wealth of information, making it a strong example of a community-focused website.
Objectives
We worked with the project manager, staff members, and volunteers who update and manage their websites. We redesigned the main Auckland Catholic website and the websites of the other charities under their umbrella.
The Diocese initially approached me for advanced WordPress one-on-one training for their web manager. A few issues presented themselves in the course of the training, which, if left, would increasingly cause significant difficulties for a large number of their sites. I was able to provide consultancy services so that the Diocese was able to make informed decisions regarding the way forward.
Kitchen Table Web Design also provides and continues to provide web design support services so that the Diocese can implement its plan to provide secure, stable, and attractive websites for the parishes and ministries it oversees.
