Case Study: Opaheke Primary School

The website design is likely to take between 12-16 hours; this part of the project is an iterative process where I design the site, Tarnya implements the wireframes and then we work together to tweak the design for mobile responsiveness. I will only bill for the hours I've worked, so the actual invoice may be less than estimated. But as long as there's no change in scope, I won't go over the estimate so you can have surety with your financials.
It's very exciting that you'd like a new logo, this is a big decision for a school. Do you want your school community to be involved in the design process? Or would you like me to work on concepts that you present to your stakeholders for discussion? The project estimate would depend on how much engagement you'd like, but the simple answer is that a logo and simple style guide is likely to take me in the region of 10-20 hours, or the project could take up to 40 hours or more if you'd like intense engagement with your stakeholder groups.
- Quote for logo and brand identity $840 (at discounted hourly rate of $60ph from $120)
A research and inspiration document based on resources provided by the school, alongside visual research and followed by three design concepts for consideration. One concept to be chosen, with two sets of client changes and the production of vector artwork and simple guidelines. The guidelines are likely to include mockups of how the logo could be used, for example on signage, business cards, brochures and presentations but artwork for these implementations is not included in the estimate.

Overview
Opaheke Primary School approached us to create a refreshed website and explore a new logo and branding for their school. They wanted a modern, mobile-responsive platform to better engage their school community and showcase their values and achievements. Additionally, they were excited about the opportunity to redefine their visual identity with a fresh logo and cohesive style guide.
The Brief
The project had two main objectives:
- Website Design: Develop a user-friendly, responsive website tailored to the school’s needs. The process would include collaborative iterations, ensuring the final product met both desktop and mobile requirements.
- Logo and Branding: Design a logo that reflects the school’s identity and resonates with stakeholders. This would involve a mix of research, design exploration, and feedback integration to produce a polished logo and brand guide.
Objectives
Website Design
The website design was completed through an iterative approach. After designing the initial framework, Tarnya implemented a range of page templates and content blocks, and together, we refined the design for optimal functionality across devices. School admin staff could do a content audit and then organise the content using the range of content blocks created. The flexible billing approach ensured transparency, with the assurance that costs would remain within the agreed scope. Instruction videos were created for admin staff to provide a how-to library for website editing to support the project's completion and for future editing.
Logo & Branding
The logo design process was a collaborative journey. Key steps included:
- Conducting research and creating an inspiration document
- Presenting three initial design concepts, followed by stakeholder feedback sessions.
- Refining the chosen concept through two rounds of client changes.
- Delivering the final logo in vector format with a simple style guide showcasing its application on various mediums, such as signage and brochures.
Conclusion
The new website offers a seamless user experience, blending engaging visuals with intuitive navigation. Its responsive design ensures accessibility across all devices, enhancing communication with the school community.
The reimagined logo and branding provide a fresh, cohesive identity that reflects the school’s values and vision. The style guide offers practical direction for consistent use, strengthening the school’s presence across digital and print platforms.
Instruction videos were created for admin staff to provide a how-to library for website editing to support the project's completion under budget and for future editing.
This project highlights our commitment to delivering high-quality designs that balance creativity, collaboration, and functionality.
